Though I play an assortment of different instruments I prefer to play guitar. I am into all sorts of different genres: jazz, indie, math-rock, post-punk, industrial, jam, alternative, ambient, emo, metal etc, etc, anything original i can appreciate. I enjoy music with a lot of dynamic texture, slow and quiet then progressively getting louder and faster with a climax. I also enjoy more chaotic less structured music. Music that still has coherence but can wander off into newly undiscovered territory that may have never been achieved without trying something new and unique. I am very passionate about what i do musically, finding that chemistry with those who have a similar outlook has been a vigorous endeavor that experience has shown takes both time and patience. I would like to experience a jam with as many different musicians as possible until my hunger for creating music is satisfied with the best possible match. I grew up listening to a boatload of music from the 70's. The first concert I ever went to was a KISS show back in December of 1977. Judas Priest was the opening band - what an eye-opening experience. A bare-bones, 3-piece, Ludwig, was the first kit I ever owned. How bare bones was it? Kick, tom, snare - and one crash cymbal. And let me tell you...The J. Geils Band's Love Stinks song sounded epic on this kit. I've owned a Tama, and (now) a Pearl set since - and have a few more drums, and cymbals, these days. Self-taught - I always had a keen sense of rhythm. Also, my air guitar solos are unreal. Some (mostly) likes and not so much...Bun E. Carlos...less is more. Neil Peart...more with more. Terry Bozzio...less with more and highly overrated. Tre' Cool - rock on. Jeff Campitelli - the metronome. John Bonham - is THE man. Keith Moon - what a looney, but he could play like the dickens. Steve Smith - don't stop believin. Phil Collins - can play AND sing. Alex Van Halen - bring back the roto toms/dragon drums. Dave Grohl - who woulda thunk. Stewart Copeland - can play and talk your ear off. Matt Cameron - some great beats and is rock solid.

Biography

I have been playing keyboards, drums, singing and writing songs since I was a kid in the 70's. I have hugely eclectic tastes, from classical to hard rock to jazz to all manner of world music, but I'd say my biggest touchstones are the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Bach and Miles Davis. My favorite artists recently are Radiohead, The Flaming Lips and Wilco. I have written music for theatre, dance, movies, TV, and jingles. I'm excited by musical innovation and love to create new sounds and new styles of music. I drummed in The Merkins, which started as bluegrass (with horns) and soon incorporated funk and Balkan folk in odd meters. Later I drummed in Lemon Skweezer, a Led Zeppelin cover band. My main musical project now is playing keyboards and singing in the disco/funk band V05.

2006 Been playing about 35 years in bands ranging from rock and metal to folk and acoustic music. Currently working on a bunch of solo material in both acoustic and electric format to be released??? Currently (Spring 2010) recovering from my latest injury to my hands, very nasty frostbite, which occured during winter. Chomping the bit to get back to playing music and working on the solo CD. For now I'm hoping to be able to start hand rehab in April 2010.

I'm 20, looking for some quality musicians to start playing with. I love playing piano and guitar, and can sub in for drums if need be.
To be honest, I have really high expectations of myself and my peers, but am also really laid back and just want to have fun/play good music.

I've been a musician since before I can even remember. I started with piano, and switched to percussion/drums when I was 9. I've been playing drums ever since.

I studied in a music conservatory for a year after high school, and decided that the classical route was just not my bag. I still love listening to it though.

I've been focusing heavily on guitar lately, and have a few solo songs written. I'm truly a drummer though, and I will always be a much better drummer than anything else. Rhythm is my specialty. I can pretty much play any style, any day of the week.

In anticipation of the new HIM album out Feb 2010, I'm interested in starting a HIM cover band. They'll never come to Madison, so let's be HIM (pun intended) and satisfy fans in the Midwest.

John Doing was born in Amsterdam, Holland, and moved to the U.S. at age 11. He graduated in 2008 from the University of Wisconsin School of Music with a Bachelor of Arts in Percussion Performance and a Concentration in African Studies. While at the UW, he performed with numerous ensembles including the Symphony Orchestra, Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, World Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and many more. He still spends his days on campus as an accompanist for modern dance and African dance classes for the UW Dance Program. As a lifelong student of music performance and African studies, John is researching African roots in Caribbean music and is constantly pursuing lessons with various teachers on drumset, congas, djembe, and other percussion.


In 2009, John won a Madison Area Music Award for best drummer/percussionist for his dedication to performing with quality groups in the Madison area almost every day such as: Houses in Motion, WADOMA, The Rhythm Section, The Actual Quintet, The Red Quartet, The Underground Organ Trio, Spectrum Trio, Chafo, Steez, and many more. Performing at a professional level on both drumset and percussion, John blends his classical music background with West African, Afro-Latin, Jazz, and Funk styles. In addition to playing with Madison based groups, he has performed with internationally known artists Chuchito Valdez, Bolokada Conde, Abdoul Doumbia, Djeneba Sako, Abdoulaye Camara, and Mandjou Mara.


As a teacher, John has taught private lessons for several years to students of all ages and was part of the faculty at Wildcat Percussion Camp in 2009. He has also been a musical mentor and volunteer through several organizations including the Madison School District, YMCA, and the WI Youth Company.


John is a full-time musician who reads music and is a fluent improvisor. He owns all his own equipment and is available for performances and recording year round.

My drumming styles are as varied as my musical tastes. Was leader in a band playing jazz/rock/funk (Steely Dan, Pat Metheny, Billy Cobham, Rippingtons, Pat Benatar, Oleta Adams). I have my own equipment including electronic triggers for varied sounds/styles. Interested in weekend gigs only & not too much travel if possible. John Masino from Madison Wisconsin: guitarist/vocalist/songwriter John Masino was an intricate part of many popular midwest bands such as Baby Fat, Chunky Pie, Punch, Hi-Fi, Powerplay, Masino, The Rage and Neptune. He also appears on the Gregg Clemons album on CBS Nemperor Records and has worked as a studio musician in New York. John was also a semifinalist in The 1999 Jimi Hendrix Electric Guitar Competition that was held at B.B. King's Blues club in Memphis, TN.
